Trees for Tomorrow

We had a fun last Saturday (May 9th). Group from UC planted 2000 trees at Glenwood Garden.

Thanks to Shaun Finley (Energy Sustainability Coordinator, UC) for all arrangements. UC Sustainability sponsored for plants, lunch and community service hours. Glenwood garden provided space in their beautiful 700 acre park.  We had 50+ volunteers. We started from UC in bus at 10 am and got back about 2:20 pm back at UC. This will help offset carbon footprint of UC.

AOL UC Chapter planning such events as a part of Mission Green Earth. We would like to work with Shaun (UC sustainability) to organize such more events. If anyone likes to design any such program you are more than welcome to contact and we can work together.  Lets make earth more greener and better place to live.

Like a sleepy blue ocean
You fill up my senses
Come fill me again
Come let me love you
Let me give my life to you
Let me drown in your laughter
Let me die in your arms
Let lay down beside you

Keep life in perspective..Be happy!

I was looking through old mails  and want to share one of the beautiful one. Its worth seeing again and again.
When we see our own life in the context of space and time all the tiny little botheration’s just fall of.

Just have a look at this

That’s a huge planet we live in right?

oops…not that big!

This is a Hubble Telescope Ultra Deep feild Infrared view of countless entire Galaxies billions of light years away.

Now just have have a look at that one thought that’s been bothering you. How big is that? How big is our life?

Many problems in life came and went off….every time we thought that’s it..its big problem…this is end of all..etc etc but now looking back at them we see them as some tiny problems worth not remembering too.
Keep life in perspective..Be happy!  This too shall pass ….

Love, Happiness, Abundance, God…

Love:

“Let love be. Don’t give love a name. When you give love a name, it becomes a relationship, and relationship restricts love. There is love between you and me. Just let it be. If you name love as brother, sister, mother, father, Guru, you are making it into a relationship. Relationship restricts love. What is your relationship to yourself? Are you your wife, brother, husband, Guru? Let love be. Don’t give it a name.”

We get so caught up in relationships, we forget that the ultimate goal is to be able to learn to love unconditionally. Without strings, nor expectations. We always want to demand from others, and in the process, we loose our love for them.

Love is our very nature….we cannot but only love. just know that and be with it. Be grateful for  all that we have and enjoy it.

Happiness:

“If you are unhappy, go out and serve. You will become happy…Unhappiness comes when you sit and think about yourself and brood about yourself and worry about yourself. The candle is burning for you, you don’t have to do anything. The sun is shining for you, there is nothing to do. You have to be grateful, sit below it and serve. Be in love. It’s as simple as that.”

You cannot achieve ultimate happiness/ silence/meditation without doing service. Both go hand in had. The more the service you do more dipper can you go inside.

Abundance :

Abundance is a state of mind within you.If you just look at “lack,” the lack increases in life. Don’t look at the lack in your life. See what you have. Then abundance increases. Just look at what you have. Focus on it, because where you put your energy that increases in life.

God:

You think God is a person sitting up there. That is only in Michelangelo’s painting. God is not a person. God is a field of energy, like a magnetic field. The whole universe is pervaded by this field. In meditation, we are in communion with this field which has life, consciousness. Just like the invisible air, we sometimes experience the blessing, but God’s presence is veiled from us. Spiritual practices unveil GOD!

And Meditation, Spiritual practices are not that something for which you have to be saint or like that. You already do that. When you are in deep joy, exercising, in present moment, playing with kids, loving etc etc.

Before we can lead, we must serve….
Before we can serve, we must prepare….
Before we can prepare, we must learn….
Before we can learn, we must listen….
Before we can listen, we must be silent!!!

Nano Ganesh

Nano Ganesh is fascinating technology innovation addressing the pains of rural/agro population directly.

As the name doesn’t suggest, it is actually a modem (hardware device) that controls the starter of the pumpset and it just costs between 500 to 1700 INR. Just by making a simple mobile/ land line voice call, farmers can trigger their pumpset to switch it on/off, check the sufficient power supply etc. hence handling their pumpsets remotely from anywhere.

One farmer from AP (Narendra) created a device that enables him to control his water pump remotely via his handset, an idea that has been developed commercially (Santosh Ostwal) with the emergence of a device called the Nano Ganesh which can be used in conjunction with the simplest phones.

Nano Ganesh is example of great technology innovation suitable for Indian agro needs.

I am hoping that Nano Ganesh will be Shri Ganesha of such much more innovations for Indian grass root /agro /ruaral needs. (While chanting “Shri Ganesh” in Hindu mythology symbolizes for a safe and happy beginning, Nano Ganesh will symbolize for the safe and happy maintenance).

There are great technologies available we need just innovators like Santosh,Narendra…and that will take India to new heights. Empowering grass root Indian masses through technological innovations is needed.

More details @ Nano Ganesh from  www.nanoganesh.com/

Nano Ganesh is a GSM Mobile based remote control system exclusively for the use with water pump sets in agriculture areas. The need of Nano Ganesh arised from the routine problems  faced by the farmers in operating the pumps. They are, fluctuations in power supply, difficult  terrain, fear of animals on the way to pumps, hazardous locations of the pumps along the river or water storage beds, shock hazards, rains etc.

With the help of Nano Ganesh Mobile Modem :

  • A farmer can control the pumps from any distance.
  • He can check an availability of power supply at the pump end.
  • He can acknowledge the on / off status of the water pump.
  • In some models, a farmer gets an alert call if there is a theft attempt of the cable or
    pump.

Operation :

A Nano Ganesh Instument is connected to the existing starter. A farmer has to simply dial a
number dedicated for a Nano Ganesh set and then punch his on or off code for the control of the
pump set. It can be connected to any existing electrical starter and motor pumps. Hence, there is no necessity of replacing the pumping set. For higher H.P pumps, it can be connected along with the protection systems.

Features :

  • Water pump can be controlled from any distance by a mobile or land line phone.
  • A mobile network is essential near the water pumps.
  • One can check availability of the power supply at the pump end.
  • One can check the load on / off status by a simple audio tone.
  • Automatic Mode / Remote Mode Available.
  • Provision of memory for storing the on and off commands.

Great job Mr. Santosh Ostwal and I hope that more and more farmers take use of this device. With the incresed use of mobile in rural technology this will be very easy transition for farmers.

Being from a farming background I can see the immense benefit Nano Ganesh brings to rural Indian farmers.

We need more and more engineers, young minds to work towards rural automation. I remember while  in college I had idea of automated irrigation system. During second year of engineering we had formed a group called Faith India. I was just searching after many years and yes still we have live link  http://www.faithindia.netfirms.com/index.htm.

We had idea of developing automated irrigation system. Where we will have soil moisture tester. According to the readings for specific crop ; the signal will be send to pump; switching if irrigation in that part of farm is necessary. And hence automatic irrigation of farm can be achieved.  With the Nano Ganesh I am getting motivation to go back to my college day ideas and work on them.

Why Ratan Tata is not in Billionares ?

So many people around the world want to know that “What is the Net Worth of Ratan Tata”?

TATA Group is running 96 businesses and out of which 28 Companies are publically listed on the various stock exchanges. Tata Group is world’s top 50 Group according to Market capitalization and Reputation.

Have you ever thought why Ratan tata’s name is not in the list of billionaire’ s club? why Ratan Tata is not a billionaire on the Forbes magazine list of billionaire people of the world?

The reason is that, TATA Group’s 96 companies are held by its main Company “TATA Sons” and the main owner of this TATA Sons is not Ratan Tata but various charitable organizations developed and run by TATA Group.

Out of which JRD TATA Trust & Sir Ratan Tata Trust are the main. 65% ownership of TATA Sons which is the key holding company of the other 96 TATA Group Company is held by various charitable organizations.

So this 65% ownership ownership of Tatasons Limited is not reflected on Ratan Tata’s personal Financial Statement but on the various charitable organizations. and this is the reason why Ratan Tata is not in the list of Billionaire club.

If we put this 65% ownership of Tata Sons in Ratan TATA’s own personal financial statement then Ratan Tata’s Net worth can become more than $ 70 billion. and that’s much more than the Warren Buffet’s Current Net Worth of $ 62 billion, the world’s richest person according to Forbes magazine 2008.

However, it doesn’t mean that Ratan Tata is poor. In one interviews he had told the reporter that, “I have my own Capital”. He is the chairman of Tata Group so obviously he earns lots of money every year as a bonus, remuneration and salary. However, Ratan Tata’s Net worth is not $ 1 Billion.

He is not a billionaire on paper. but in reality he is the richest person of the world. His net worth in reality is more than Bill Gates and Warren Buffet.

Thats the  good thing about Tata Group is , They do Charity out of their Money…
And that is the reason TATA Group has generated so much of Goodwill over last 5 generations and will kepp getting.
